  • DMU Arts and Festival Management students, in association with WORD! invite you to a one-night-only evening of poetry and live music. The event will raise money for City of Sanctuary, a charity providing support, dignity and welcome to people seeking sanctuary in the UK.

    The night will be headlined by musician and poet, Mellow Baku - "a must for all" (Courtney Pine OBE) - with many thanks for her generous support.

    More about Mellow

    Sound, word and visual artist Mellow Baku has performed throughout UK and internationally for over 10 years, including at London Southbank, Warwick Arts, as well as in Switzerland, Denmark and New York. She has been commissioned for plays, storytelling, poetry and music at Curve Leicester and Attenborough Arts. Over the last 5 years she toured Manchester theatres, Leicester schools and Nottingham Libraries. Her music has received airplay on BBC Radio.

    Mellow facilitates workshops in the community and for the NHS, with gender-specific and inclusive groups. She is currently devising a free-jazz inspired immersive theatre piece ‘Mmm Ahh Whoosh’ for early years.

    Born in London, Mellow Baku was moved to the Midlands as a child, raised in a cultic religious organisation age 5–19, and escaped to study Fine Art in Leicester. She has been exploring ways of healing, finding, shedding identity and sharing through creativity ever since.
