A Visitor Calls

  • ‘A Visitor Calls’ is a brand new publication from the Bradgate Writers, a regular writing group organised by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) in partnership with Brightsparks - voluntary arts in mental health organisation, and WORD! - a voluntary organisation delivering the longest running spoken word night in the Midlands.

Funded by the Arts Council England, the anthology has been developed over the course of a year. It has been guided by editors, Peter Buckley and Lydia Towsey, supported by a team of volunteers, and fed into by a number of nationally and internationally established visiting writers, including: Nasser Hussain, John Gallas, Francesca Beard, Will Horspool, Mark Pajak, Maria Taylor and Malika Booker.

Divided into chapters, the work explores such themes as travel, love, memory, the environment, health, home and of course, visitations - from the cob van calling to sell us our sarnies and samosas, to imaginary characters, friends, family. strangers and more…

Illustration has been led by visiting artist/facilitator, Jo Sheppard and delivered by artists attending LPT’s regular visual arts drop-in, Artscafe.

We hope you enjoy reading and looking at the work we’ve created, as we have enjoyed creating it. Open the book and pay us a visit - our pictures, poems and pieces can’t wait to meet you…
