    Roy McFarlane is a Poet, Playwright and former Youth & Community Worker born in Birmingham of Jamaican parentage, now living in Brighton former Birmingham Poet Laureate and Starbuck Poet in Residence.

    His debut collection, Beginning With Your Last Breath, was followed by The Healing Next Time, (Nine Arches Press 2018) nominated for the Ted Hughes award and Jhalak Prize. It was also a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and Chosen by The Guardian as one of best poetry titles of 2018.

    Jazzed to the bone, he can be found in Brighton Selina Hotel working on his third collection coming out Autumn 2022...

    Alongside Roy, writers from the acclaimed Elder Tree project will pre-launch ‘Write Here: Where I’m Calling From’ - an exciting new anthology of poetry inspired by Raymond Carver. The intergenerational work has been developed over the last few months via a series of sessions, led by Lydia Towsey with Sabrina Smith. The Elder Tree is produced by Writing East Midlands in collaboration with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, BrightSparks and WORD!
