  • Love poems, spirited and tender speech, and musical tributes to the writers who continue to shape and transform Leicester. The evening includes a special tribute to Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Honorary Doctorate of the University of Leicester and a former Creative Writing Fellow, who passed away in July 2021.

    Host Carol Leeming MBE is a multi-award winning poet, playwright and singer who has contributed for over two decades to arts and culture in Leicester. Her writing and performance ‘ actively seeks to give voice to the voiceless’. Carol is Leicester born of Windrush parents, originally from Jamaica and Antigua. She is a recipient of the East Midlands Womens’ Award for Arts Media & Music and has been a regular cultural commentator for BBC Radio Leicester and an arts reviewer. She is currently lecturing and giving talks at De Montfort University, the University of Leicester and other academic establishments.

    With live readings from Lydia Towsey, Roy McFarlane, Marcus Joseph, Bobba Bennett and James Walker, and digital readings from Fred D’Aguiar, Aoife Mannix and Mellow Baku, plus more very special guests to be announced.
