  • Join us and Renaissance One in June with Jason Allen-Paisant - a scholar, award-winning poet
and writer, and Cathi Rae - 'a spoken word icon' (Joelle Taylor).

His critically acclaimed collection, Thinking with Trees was a 2021 Irish Times Poetry Book of the Year and won the Poetry category of the 2022 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature.

His work has appeared in Granta, The Guardian, The Poetry Review, Callaloo, New Poetries VIII, The BBC, More Fiya: A New Collection of Black British Poetry, amongst others.

The recipient of a prestigious Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship for research on poetry and theatre, he holds a Doctorate in Medieval and Modern Languages from the University of Oxford. He is currently Senior Lecturer in Critical Theory and Creative Writing in the Department of English and Creative Writing at the University of Manchester.

Jason’s creative non-fiction book titled Scanning the Bush will be published by Hutchinson Heinemann in 2024.

Jason will be supported by Cathi Rae an award winning poet, spoken word artist, teacher and accidental academic.

Cathi's work has been widely published and she has performed throughout the UK. Described as "a spoken word icon" by Joelle Taylor, her work focuses on telling the stories of the people who don't often appear in poetry.

She is a campaigner against ageism and the invisibility of older people. At the age of 60 she is currently working on a PhD, proving that age is no barrier to learning.

Her collection 'Your cleaner hates you and other poems' was published in 2020 and a second collection, 'Writing elegies for dead men I didn't meet' is due for publication in 2024.

To perform as part of the open mic and/or workshop with Jason, 4.30-6.30pm - email: [email protected] and do let us know of any access needs.
